It’s one of the wedding-industry’s newest, biggest trends… Naked Wedding Cakes!
What are naked wedding cakes? Well to put it simply – it’s the wedding cake, without all the icing, the sugar roses, the intricate details – and instead just cake, cream and whatever else might be hiding under those layers of icing.
The most popular form of naked wedding cakes is usually created using sponge cakes, with cream and jam in between the layers… UHM… YUM.
But this is really the kind of trend you can totally interpret yourself. Want a naked chocolate cake instead? Do it! We’ve put together loads of inspiration together in the photos below… so take a look! Warning… probably best to to look if you’re hungry.
The cake above is quite a polished version of the naked wedding cakes trend. Notice how it’s been polished and rounded at the corners. Perfect if you still want it to look semi-traditional!

Adding a little bit of nature to the cake really steps up the ‘rustic’ and ‘DIY’ look and style of the cake. Check out the pine cones on the top layer, and the little bit of lavender on the lower tiers. Super adorable for a backyard wedding.
Don’t be afraid to add colour! The pink themed cake below bold, but we love it!
With this kind of cake you can be as elaborate or as simple as you want. The cake below is definitely on the simple-side of the spectrum…. But it’s still gorgeous. Having a small wedding or an informal evening-do? This might be the ideal solution to your cake-issues.
So, what do you think?
